the flower fragrance oil which was a gift from Janis.

last month its level was near full. this month it is less than a third.
the flower’s shade of peach has also been fading slowly.
when the oil is finally used up, the flower might become pure white.

whenever the sun was setting like this,
i knew it was time to go home.

the familiar warm orange glow,
glistening on car bonnets in the carpark.
people from after work and parents collecting
their children from school. the smell of dinner
from neighbours’ windows, the sky fading from
orange to twilight blue.

walking along the route home,
i told myself, this was how i wanted to
live my sunsets, everyday.
